Our second SOCIAL GATHERING of the season occurred Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 2:00-5:00 pm, in the Upstairs Ballroom of the Sheldon Concert Hall, 3648 Washingon Avenue, St. Louis MO 63108.

The gathering featured performances by students from both St. Louis Bella Corda, the performing group from the St. Louis Academy for Guitar, led by Kirk Hanser; and the Webster University Guitar Ensemble, directed by John McClellan.

Following that, we assembled participating members into an orchestra of 26 guitarists, with Kirk Hanser and William Ash sharing conducting duties.

Many thanks to Paul Reuter and his staff at the Sheldon for the hosting of this event at this beautiful ballroom, to the young performers who played so well, and to the many Guitar Society member guitarists--26 Members strong-- who participated in the Guitar Orchestra! Another magical event in a transformative season! Watch this page for an upcoming announcement of the next event this Spring.

Our first SOCIAL GATHERING of the season occurred Sunday, September 13, from 2:00-4:00 pm, at the home of Society member James Goodman.

The gathering featured performances by Jeff Bowen, Adam Gabbert, and Benjamin Minden-Birkenmaier, young guitarists who have risen through St. Louis educational guitar programs.

The musical program consisted of Aconquija and Una Limonsa por el Amor de Dios by Agustin Barrios Mangore, performed by Adam Gabbert;

Elegy in E minor by Johann Kaspar Mertz, and Prelude #2 in E Major By Heitor Villa-Lobos, performed by Ben Minden-Birkenmaier; and

Four Etudes from Eleven Etudes by Benjamin Verdery, and Soleares from Hommage a Tarrega by Joaquin Turina, performed by Jeff Bowen.

Many Thanks to Jim for the hosting of the event at his beautiful home, to the young performers who played beautifully, and to the many Guitar Society volunteers who made this a special gathering indeed—a terrific beginning for our 2009-10 season!
