  • Week of January 11 2016: "Tangos, Part Two!" Highlights: All pieces from tonight's show are Astor Piazzolla compositions or arrangements. One of the most celebrated Piazzolla works for the guitar, 'Histoire du tango,' is a four movement suite arranged for guitar and flute. Each movement represents a different era of the tango in South America: I. Bordel (Cabaret bar) II. Cafe III. Nightclub IV. Concertd'aujord'hui (Modern Concert). We have featured a different ensemble performing each movement of 'Histoire du tango.'

  • Week of January 4 2016: Highlights: “Tango Assassins!” The compositions of Astor Piazzolla combine styles of traditional South American and classical music, all inspired by tango dance. John McClellan and the Hanser-McClellan Duo perform Piazzolla, and as well as our up-and-coming concert series guests Giampaolo Bandini - Cesare Chiacchiaretta Duo, guitar and bandoneon, who will be performing at the Sheldon on Friday, January 22nd. Duo Erato (Martha Masters and Risa Carlson, guitars), take us to Spain in their recording of Fernando Sor's "L’Encouragement," which the SLCGS Orchestra will be performing for the Member's Gathering event on Sunday, January 17th.

  • Week of December 28 2015: Highlights: Classical guitar plays Rock n' Roll! St. Louis' own John McClellan performs 'Paint it Black,' a Rolling Stones classic. Michael Chapdelaine's arrangements from his album "Grapevine" include such favorites as Eric Clapton and the soulful tune 'I Head it Through the Grapevine.' The later half of the show has even more surprises... Two tracks from the LAGQ album "Guitar Heroes" and classical arrangements of the band Queen's pop rock ballads.

  • Week of December 21 2015: Highlights: Another holiday special of "Inside Classical Guitar," featuring classical guitar Christmas recordings by Christopher Parkening, the Small Torres Duo, and the Boccherini Guitar Quartet.

  • Week of December 14 2015: Highlights: It's beginning to feel a lot like (guitar) Christmas... Check out the set list for tonight's 'Inside Classical Guitar' radio show, linked below, which includes holiday classics for guitar solo, duo, flute duet, and quartet. A fantastic show for this season.

  • Week of December 7 2015: Highlights: We enter the world of the Opera for this week's program for the "Inside Classical Guitar" radio show. All selections are from "The Cavatina Duo at the Opera," the latest release from duo and husband and wife, Spanish flutist Eugenia Moliner and Bosnian guitarist Denis Azabagic. Arrangements for guitar and flute appear on this album from the following operas: 'Der Freischütz,' 'Carmen,' 'The Magic Flute,' 'Tancredi,' and 'The Carnival of Venice.' Also, John Clayton announces an exciting award given to the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society...

  • Week of November 30 2015:

    Highlights: An all Vivaldi program featuring the Romeros both as a family and as soloists.

  • Week of November 23 2015: Highlights: "Charlie Byrd and The Washington Guitar Quintet"- A Jazz guitarist on nylon strings, Charlie Byrd plays Gershwin classics such as 'I've Got Rhythm,' along with Jazz legend Bix Beiderbecke arrangements, and ends on an homage of the great Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. John Clayton also shares what he is thankful for this Thanksgiving season.

  • Week of November 16 2015:

    Highlights: We go back in time to the Golden age of the Guitar in Italy, where Mauro Giuliani and Ferdinando Carulli were ascendant. Who was the better guitarist? And more importantly today, who was the better composer? Tune in and you make the call!

  • Week of November 9, 2015: Highlights: Known as an innovator during the bossa nova movement in 1960s Brazil, Edu Lobo's compositions are cultural classics in South American and internationally. The Brasil Guitar Duo's 2012 release 'Zansibar - The Music of Edu Lobo' features the music of Lobo for two guitars, arranged by João Luiz, member of the duo with Douglas Lora.
