This week a double focus: the form is dance, and the performer is the deservedly-popular guitarist Jorge Morel! Starting with his legendary Danza Brasiliera, then his five movement suite entitled Latin Impressions, through Bustament's amazing Missionera, music by Agustin Barrios, and more!
Here we go, hang on to your seats! Inside Classical Guitar plays some prime selections from the immense discography of Los Romeros, in anticipation of their St. Louis performance this Saturday, March 4, 8:00 pm at the 560 Music Center. Listen in now, then join us on Saturday to experience brothers Celin, Pepe, Celin's son Clino, and nephew Lito Romero live in concert!
Let's get in the mood for the upcoming St. Louis return of Los Romeros on March 4 with some music by the middle brother of the three, the legendary Pepe Romero. A show of Spanish favorites, plus some Brahms, Schimann, and Chopin, all sure to please!
We spend an evening with the Italians: Guitarist Cristiano Porqueddo Plays composer Angelo Gilardino. Tune in for some fascinating new works for guitar!
How about an all Heitor Villa-Lobos program this week? We've found a terrific interpreter of this most beloved guitar composer of the 20th century, Johannes Tonio Kreusch. Also the compatible Sonata for Guitar, Opus 47, of Alberto Ginastera to top it off!
Our show this week features St. Louis favorites of "Duo Noire"—Chris Mallett and Thomas Flippin, who will be making their 4th St. Louis residency next week. Their visits to St. Louis area public schools will inspire all students who hear them, and all are invited as our guests to hear their upcoming Saturday evening community performance on our Great Artist Series! Also we couldn't resist adding in some selections from our local Hanser McClellan Guitar Duo for an all duo guitar show!
Time to get back to basics! Let's hear American guitarist David Leisner, a well-respected J.S. Bach interpreter, play his all-Bach program for us. In addition, David is one of the few musicians of any instrument to have found his own methods of recovery for focal dystonia in his right hand. A fascinating and heart-warming story indeed!
