Born in Brazil, Fabio Zanon holds both Brazilian and Italian citizenships. He came to international prominence in 1996 when he was the First Prize winner of both the 30th Francisco Tarrega Prize in Spain and the 14th Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Competition held in St. Louis. His albums of Villa-Lobos and Scarlatti have been hailed as benchmark recordings. In 1997, he received the Moinho Santista Prize, the major artistic and scientific award in Brazil, in recognitio of the role he has played in the development of Brazilian music. In 2005, he was awarded the Carlos Gomes Prize for being the best solo performer in Brazil. His most unexpected award was as best concert performance of 2006 in Brazil for his debut as an operatic conductor. In 2009, he also published his first book, Villa Lobos, to mark the 50th Anniversary of the death of the great Brazilian composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos. The concert performance is presented in collaboration with Viva Brasil and Viva Brasil.
