Manuel Barrueco is an artist in a class of his own. During three decades of concertizing, he has performed across the United Sates and virtually every Latin American country.
Mr. Barrueco has appeared on a wide array of American television programs including "CBS Sunday Morning", A&E's "Breakfast with the Arts", and "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" on PBS.
His notoriety as a world class artist even landed him a spot in a 1993 luxury car commercial where he is seen performing in the back of a Lexus!
Mr. Barrueco began playing the guitar at the age of eight, and he attended the Esteban Salas Conservatory in his native Cuba. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1967, as political refugees. Later, he completed his advanced studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he now shares his love for music with a small number of exceptionally gifted young guitarists from all over the world.
Mr. Barrueco is the recipient of the United States Artist Fontanals Fellowship for Artistic Excellence, and American Record Guide said of his playing, “...his technique is absolute,
his expression restrained but always moving, always in the finest of taste...what the guitar should sound like."
We could not think of a better way to close our season than a dazzling performance from Maestro Barrueco!
Mr. Barrueco will conduct a master class for young area guitar students on Sunday, April 15, 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the 560 Music Center in University City, Missouri, 63130. Admission is $5 at the door, free to Guitar Society Members. For more information call Mark Akin at 314 567-5566.
